QuadDefender is a simple arcade-style twin-stick shooter. The game's goal is to survive as long as possible to get a highscore.
Role: In this project, we got a twin-stick shooter template to work with. I created the enemies and the player's weapon. Additionally, I created all the pixel art as well.
Goal:The goal of making this game was to learn the basics of system design/technical game design and learn the basics of the Godot Engine.
Process: I started by designing the weapon; I wanted a weapon that could simultaneously hit multiple enemies at different angles. I created the QuadGun, a weapon that shoots fast lasers in four directions.
Around this weapon, I designed the segmented centipede enemy; you need to defeat all the segments before you can destroy the head.
After playtesting, I noticed that the game lacked flavor and challenge, as the gameplay was predictable. To combat this, I added a new type of enemy, a shooting centipede that stays in the corners of the screen. Now, the player has two challenges they need to defend themselves from; this also made the QuadGun more valuable as the player has enemies coming from different directions.
Result: The game was released for free on itch.io.
